What is an O-ring? 

An O-ring is a mechanical seal that fills the space between two components to prevent leakage from the joined object. These are often in doughnut or torus shapes made out of rubber gaskets.

These are one of the most common seals used in machines because it is inexpensive, easy to make, reliable, and have simple mounting requirements.

Benefits of an O ring

These are commonly used to seal joints between separate parts and prevent the leaking of fluids and gases in pumps, cylinders, connectors, and valves.

Under pressure, the O-ring will shift in its groove towards the lower-pressure side of the seal. However, too much pressure will deform it and it will eventually cause the seal to start leaking.
